OLED TVs have been hovering just under the public radar as far as consumer mass awareness is concerned. Walk into your local big box store and you’ll notice only a few OLED TVs on display. And as recent as late last year and the beginning of 2015, these displays were of the 1080p variety only.

Sharp Aquos Beyond 4K UHD TV
Sharp’s Aquos 2015 4K Ultra HD TVs will soon be available. This lineup will include three new series: the UB30, UE30 and UH30, and will be offered in seven screen sizes ranging from 43″ to 80″. These TVs will include the latest 4K specs, including a quad-core processor, H.265 and VP9, which is an all new codec that allows 4K content to play back in its native form.
OLED (organic light-emitting diode) displays have been praised by enthusiast for their overall outstanding picture quality. One of their best attributes is their amazing black level capability, producing truly deep blacks which are simply the best ever, beating out all other current and past TV technologies. Color reproduction is also better than any other past or current technology. The color palette on these displays are extremely rich and vibrant with a very natural and life-like appearance.

Vizio’s long awaited P Series has finally arrived. I have gathered info on five of the six models (with five screen sizes) currently available through Amazon.com, which include the 70″ P702ui-B3, P652ui-B2, 60″ P602ui-B3, 55″ P552ui-B2 and 50″ P502ui-B1.
From the specs listed below these models look very promising. And I certainly hope these new 4K displays will deliver on picture performance.
One of the key features of these new displays is the full array backlighting with local dimming and up to 72 active LED zones. This should add to the sets 4K performance giving it increased black level capability and better picture contrast.
Also, the pricing of the P Series is much cheaper than similar models from Samsung and LG, which will certainly attract many consumers looking to get into the 4k Ultra HD arena.
I will be reviewing one of these models in the near feature. So say tuned.
Update: See my review of the P652ui-B2 here.
Last month Netflix started streaming 4K content. However, at this time their offerings are very limited. Available now is the original series House of Cards: Season 2 and a few nature films. They will be adding more of their shows later this year. And eventually all of their original shows will be in 4K.
