Sony’s XBR 2017 TV Lineup

Sony Electronics recently released info for its new premium XBR 4K HDR UHD TVs for 2017. This lineup will consists of the XBR-X800E, XBR-X850E, XBR-X900E and the XBR-X930E/XBR-X940E series. All models available now.

All models will support HDR (High Dynamic Range) which provides enhanced 4K images by improving contrast of the brighter and darker areas of the picture for a more dynamic and realistic image, in addition to creating richer and  more vibrant colors.

The XBR-X930E and XBR-X940E series includes Sony’s 4K HDR Processor X1 Extreme advanced image engine to improve color accuracy, contrast and clarity, and supports the HDR10, Dolby Vision and HLG formats for viewing HDR content. Sony states Dolby Vision and HLG will be added via a firmware update by the end of the year.

Sony does not mention in its latest press info if the other models will be capable of processing the HLG and Dolby Vision HDR formats; I will assume not, since they have the 4K HDR Processor X1 – not the “Extreme” edition. I will update this article as more info becomes available.

The X940E use full-array boosting LED backlighting with local dimming. The 930E contains Slim Backlight Drive+ technology, and uses edge-lit LEDs with local dimming for backlighting. The 900E uses direct-lit LED backlighting with full-array local dimming, claims Sony, while the 850E and 800E use edge-lit LEDs for panel backlighting.

TRILUMINOS Display color technology is featured on each model and provides enhanced color reproduction.

All models will include Google’s Android smart TV platform. These new models will also feature Google Assistant Built-In – which allows users to quickly access entertainment, get answers and control devices around their home. It’s also easy to find the latest movies, check the score of the big game or dim the lights.
