Lossless Audio Finally Arrives on Spotify Premium

As a recent subscriber to Qobuz music streaming, I have discovered just how good lossless audio can sound, and I must say I truly enjoy the sound quality of the Hi-Res audio tracks available on Qobuz..

That being said, Spotify’s long-awaited Lossless feature is finally here. Premium subscribers in select markets can now stream music in up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz FLAC, unlocking richer detail and the highest sound quality available on Spotify. Eligible listeners will receive an in-app notification as the rollout continues.

“After years of anticipation, we’re thrilled to bring lossless sound to Premium subscribers,” said Gustav Gyllenhammar, VP of Subscriptions at Spotify. “We’ve built this feature with quality, simplicity, and transparency in mind, giving fans a better listening experience than ever.”

Lossless joins a growing lineup of Premium features, including DJ, Jam, AI Playlist, daylist, and expertly curated editorial mixes—further enhancing how listeners discover and enjoy music.

Your Music, Your Way
Subscribers can choose their preferred audio settings for Wi-Fi, cellular, and downloads, with options ranging from Low to Lossless. A Lossless badge appears in the Now Playing view or Connect Picker when the feature is enabled.

Lossless works across mobile, desktop, and tablet, plus many Spotify Connect-enabled devices from Sony, Bose, Samsung, Sennheiser, Marantz, and more. Support for Sonos and Amazon devices will follow soon.

How to Enable Lossless

  1. Tap your profile icon in the Spotify app.
  2. Go to Settings & Privacy → Media Quality.
  3. Select where you want to enable Lossless (Wi-Fi, cellular, or downloads).

Setting up Spotify Lossless Audio

For the best experience, Spotify recommends streaming on Wi-Fi using wired headphones or speakers via Spotify Connect, since Bluetooth currently compresses lossless files.

Lossless audio files are larger and may take a moment to load, but once cached, playback is seamless and uninterrupted. The feature is rolling out gradually across more than 50 markets, with subscribers in Australia, Austria, Czechia, Denmark, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Portugal, Sweden, the US, and the UK already getting access.

As a long-time Spotify Premium subscriber, I look forward to listening to Spotify’s Lossless audio tracks.
