OLED televisions are continuing to gain momentum as Sony is jumping into the OLED market, and introduced the Bravia A1E Series at CES 2017 in Las Vegas. This new lineup of slim 4K HDR OLED TVs will be available in 55″, 65″ and 77″ screen sizes. No pricing or release date info available at this time.
The A1E’s video processing is powered by Sony’s 4K HDR X1 Extreme processor and supports the Dolby Vision format for displaying HDR content. In addition, Google Android’s smart TV platform is also on board, and those with Google Home can also control the TV via their voice.
The stand design on the A1E Series is quite unusual which gives the TV an appearance that is similar to an easel with no legs when viewed from the side. The stand is attached to the back of the display panel and props it up. The stand also contains the TVs electronic circuitry.
The A1E does not contain conventional speakers, but instead uses what Sony calls Acoustic Surface technology, which allows sound to come directly from the surface of the screen. I personally look forward to hearing this technology.
Sony claims their new OLED TVs will produce “unparalleled” black levels and contrast. And with Sony’s history of high-end LED TV models being capable of producing some the finest contrast and black levels available, I tend to believe Sony will no doubt be able to live up to their statement of “unparalleled” black levels and contrast in these sets.

Update: Sony has officially announced pricing and release date info for its OLED Bravia A1E Series. The 55″ XBR-55A1E will have a MSRP of $4,999.99, while the 65″ XBR-65A1E will have a MSRP of $6,499.99. Shipping will start in April. Dealers are now taking pre-orders for these models.
Sony has yet to release any pricing info for its 77″ XBR-77A1E, however sources say it will have a retail price of $17,999.99 and will begin shipping in September.
