Sony recently announced their BRAVIA XR 4K lineup for 2023. There are five new models in the BRAVIA XR lineup: X95L and X93L Mini LED, X90L Full Array LED, A95L QD-OLED and A80L OLED TVs.

Sony’s 2023 BRAVIA XR TVs have an updated Cognitive Processor XR, that features the all-new XR Clear Image on all models except the X93L. XR Clear Image improves noise reduction and clarity with motion, reducing blur, and will make picture adjustments based on the quality of the source material.

Sony claims: the “New in 2023, the power of the XR Cognitive Processor 2023 authorizes the integration of the XR Clear Image function capable of finely adapting video processing to the nature of the signal (definition from SD to 2160p, streaming source, DTT, satellite, DVD, Blu-Ray or 4K Ultra HD Blu-Ray, or even bitrate or encoding parameters) in terms of noise reduction and upscaling. Thus the XR Clear Image process never does too much, some images relatively badly withstanding significant “retouching” to become, for example, “hard” on the screen.”

New Gaming Features

Also new for 2023, Sony has introduced a gaming dashboard menu. This will allow gamers to tailor their settings to their preferences, such as turning on or off VRR or Motion Blur Reduction with quick access. The Game Menu also allows users to increase the brightness in dark areas to easily spot objects and opponents with the Black Equalizer and can easily take aim at their opponents with six types of crosshairs. Also new this year is the ability to customize the size of the screen with the “Screen Size” feature to concentrate on gaming with a smaller, focused screen.

The A95L model also features Multi-View, where users can watch walk-throughs and gameplay guides side-by-side while simultaneously playing their selected game title.

More LED Zones

The X90L will offer up to 60 percent more local dimming zones than its predecessor, the X90K . This will offer better backlight and blooming control. The X90L will also have 30 percent higher peak brightness than the X90K. The X95L will have approximately 20 percent more dimming zones when compared to the X90L.

Sony’s Rebranding

Last year’s X95K has been rebranded as the X93L. These two models look identical and have similar specs, and Sony describes them as being very similar in overall performance. This also means the new X95L is a higher-end model than both the X95K and X93L and is actually an all-new Sony TV tier that contains better performance and features, some of which include more local dimming zones and a more powerful backlight.

HDMI 2.1 4K 120Hz Inputs

All of Sony’s latest models are capable of 4K 120Hz, but HDMI 2.1 is limited to two of the four HDMI inputs. The other two ports are HDMI 2.0.
