20″ 2.0 Soundbar System with DTS Virtual:X
Vizio is the #1 soundbar company in the US. They offer a wide variety of soundbar products ranging from single-unit solutions and up to multi-speaker home theater sound systems.
For 2019, Vizio has introduced a new entry-level single-unit soundbar system. This new compact design is their smallest soundbar yet and measures 20” W x 2.19” H x 4.45” D, and only weighs 3.69 lbs. The SB2020n-G6’s slender and aesthetically pleasing design houses two mid-range drivers (speakers) that produce its sound output.
The top of the soundbar contains buttons for power, input source, Bluetooth input and volume control. The back of the soundbar has connections for A/C power, 1 USB input, 1 Digital optical input, 1 Aux analog audio input (Stereo 3.5mm) and 1 Subwoofer output. There is no HDMI ARC (Audio Return Channel) input. ARC technology would let you use your TV remote to control the soundbar.
The SB2020n-G6 is supplied with a small remote to operate the soundbar. Some of its control functions include Bluetooth mode, DTS Virtual: X, Bass and Treble control, Input source and Volume control.
Using the speaker’s Bluetooth mode allows the pairing of a smart device – such as a smartphone – to the soundbar for music streaming.
Key Features:
- Ultra-compact design
- Bluetooth connectivity
- Built-in DTS Virtual:X technology provides a multi-dimensional sound experience that gives a virtual height and surround element.
The SB2020n-G6 is better suited for small or medium-sized listening environments due to its compact size. Nevertheless, it will output loud, clear, and well-defined sound that will be a level or two above the sound quality produced by most flat panel TV speakers. With that said, just don’t expect this soundbar to blow your socks off.
Furthermore, be careful not to push the soundbar’s volume level too high, as you may experience audible distortion.
Additionally, its compact design and small drivers won’t allow for much solid bass impact. But this is where the systems subwoofer output connection will allow you to connect an external subwoofer to the soundbar and fill this bass void.
I should also mention that even though this soundbar system can project lots of sound into your listening space, don’t expect that sound to have a wide and enveloping soundstage that spreads far beyond the soundbars’ physical boundaries. This limitation will be due to its compact size. However, turning on the DTS Virtual:X digital signal processing will help broaden the soundstage making it wider and giving it more height.
The SB2020n-G6 is a decent soundbar and will be ideal for anyone looking for a compact audio system to improve the sound of low-quality flat panel TV speakers. And the performance and features that can be had with this entry-level sound system for only $70.00, make it an exceptional bargain.
